CAUTION the temporary license permit can be a landmine that will blow up in your face.

The SLA can cancel the temporary license permit at any time and keep the fees you paid them. Imagine advertising your new business,hiring employees and purchasing inventory only to have the SLA pull your temporary permit. We know of businesses that are victims of this practice.

 Commissioner Noreen Healey is no longer with the SLA. Healey served on the SLA board since 2006. Noreen was the voice of reason on the board. There is no longer any mention of Healey on the SLA web site. Any link to Healey has been deleted. 

  I don't know of any SLA employes that love their job anymore. In my opinion most are counting the days until they retire or can find a job in another agency. I believe that is much of the reason that applying for a liquor license is such a miserable experience.

SLA implements another new plan to confiscate your money.

License applications must now be typed. Hand written applications can be rejected and fees confiscated.

Has the SLA owed you a refund for months? You are not alone. The SLA demands their money for licenses and fines immediately. If they owe you a refund it can take months, if you ever get your refund at all.

Don't bother trying to call the Liquor Authority in NYC or Buffalo. They don't answer the phone there! Only NYS government disconnects phones to "improve customer service" The police can't even call Liquor Authority investigators directly any longer.

What does the Liquor Authority do when there are about 3,000 licenses on their desks waiting to be processed? Thats easy, just reject them every chance they get, INCLUDING ATTORNEY CERTIFICATIONS. Attorneys are very upset that the SLA embarasses them but the SLA does not to care.
Why should they? Rejecting applications is a great way to confiscate more money for the state.

An SLA employee will be laid off due to PEF union fight with the Governor. So who gets whacked? One of the few investigators who treats licensee's fairly. An investigator that never bullied or lied to licensees. Of course he would be the first to lose his job.

Why is the SLA focused on raiding bars while hundreds of specific complaints not yet investigated pile up?

SLA Chief Executive officer raids bar with State Police and finds no violations. Maybe his time would be better spent improving the liquor license application process and leaving bar raids to the SLA investigators

License certificates are commonly lost in the mail. The SLA will require you to provide a police report if you don't receive your license in the mail. The police may tell you to report it to the post office. The SLA will not accept a post office report. If you can obtain a police report you then must pay the liquor Authority again for a replacement license. So why is it that the Liquor Authority does not send the licenses certified or registered mail in the first place?

If the license certificate is so important that a police report is required, why does the Liquor Authority send them out by regular UNTRACEABLE mail?

We warned you! The SLA changed the renewal process. Hundreds of licenses expired in April 2011. licensees could not get past the SLA bureaucracy in time to save there liquor license before it expired.

              Renewals the latest SLA land mine

The SLA website will soon have a page specifically for renewals. It will be located on the home page on the left side. All renewal items and issues will be placed on this page. Renewals has a new form and a new process for renewing licenses. The new form will be available on this page. The licensees will now receive a reminder card that their license is up for renewals. It will be up the licensee to download the renewal form and submit it to the lock box. Unfortunately we predict that hundreds of licenses will expire due to renewal issues
